Private was founded by Bruce Sherman, who retired in March 2009. Gregg J. Powers took over as the CEO since then. Mr. Powers began his investment career as a healthcare analyst at Raymond James Financial. Mr. Powers joined PCM's investment research team in 1988.

Bruce S. Sherman is Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Private Capital Management. He started Private Capital Management in 1986. Mr. Sherman is a Certified Public Accountant, and prior to starting Private Capital Management he worked for the Collier Family and was involved in their investments.
