Carl Icahn

Carl Icahn of Icahn Capital Management LP increased his position by 3.74% with the much-debated and hotly-divided stock, Herbalife Ltd. (HLF). With a market cap of $4.58 billion and a P/E of 10.70, Herbalife is down 2% over 12 months.

Guru Icahn paid around $41 per share for about 600,000 shares, making a 0.2% impact to his portfolio. He currently holds 16,966,485 shares after the trade as of May 3, 2013.

At the end of April, Herbalife Ltd. reported first quarter net sales of $1.1 billion, reflecting an increase of 17% compared to the same time period in 2012 on volume point growth of 13%. Adjusted net income for the quarter of $137.4 million, or $1.27 per diluted share, compares to 2012 first quarter net income of $108.2 million and EPS of $0.88, respectively. On a reported basis, first quarter 2013 EPS of $1.10 increased 25% compared to the $0.88 reported in the comparable quarter last year.

Michael O. Johnson, Herbalife's chairman and CEO, said, “We continue to deliver record results in sales and profitability as our independent distributors successfully execute numerous growth strategies that enable deeper market penetration, developing customers using our weight management and targeted nutrition products every day.”

For the quarter ending March 31, 2013, Herbalife generated cash flow from operations of $137.6 million, an increase of 14% compared to 2012; paid dividends of $30.9 million; invested $24.9 million in capital expenditures; and repurchased $162.4 million in common shares outstanding under its share repurchase program, the company said.

HLF’s current share price is $43.66, with a change from average up 6%.

Edward Lampert

At long last, Edward Lampert of ESL Investments and Sears Holding finally reduced his position by 43.41% with Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) taking a big bite out of his Sears project after a long string of micro-reductions. He traded in the price range of $1.58 on about a million shares. Lampert currently holds 295,553 shares after the trade, as of May 7, 2013, a far fall from 2 million plus shares when he bet heavily on the Sears spin-off in the first quarter of 2012. This sell clips 0.01% off his portfolio. Lampert’s overall trading history shows the average cost of 1,1183,107 OSH shares was $27 per share, for a loss of 94%.

Down 92% over 12 months, Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) has a market cap of $9.7 million with a P/S of 0.01. The current share price of OSH is $1.57, with a change from average down 1%.

Orchard Supply Hardware reported a net loss of $33.57 million for the first quarter of 2013, compared to a net loss of $7.24 million in the same quarter last year. The company is currently in discussion with lenders regarding a possible out-of-court solution for restructuring and paying off a loan.

Orchard Supply’s CEO Mark Baker, commented, “We continue to expect comparable store sales growth of 9% to 11% in the first quarter, reflecting our team’s focused efforts during the important spring selling season.”

Orchard Supply could be attractive to the much larger home improvement competitors as a turn-key acquisition.

As of May 3, 2013, the portfolio of ESL Investments shows 11 stocks at a total value of $3.8 billion, with 2 new stocks, and a quarter-over-quarter turnover of 8%.

Steven Cohen

Steven Cohen of SAC Capital Advisors increased his position with rapidly expanding television broadcaster, Nexstar Broadcasting Group (NXST), by a12,851.79%, picking up around 1.5 million shares in the price range $26.73. This trade impacts his portfolio by 0.24%. Cohen first bought 12,117 shares in the fourth quarter of 2012 at an average cost of $11 per share, for a 147% gain. He currently holds 1,569,369 shares after the trade as of May 7, 2013.

Yesterday Nexstar reported a new record for its first quarter 2013 revenue of $112.2 million, an increase of 34.2%.

Up 286% over 12 months, Nexstar Broadcasting Group Inc. (NXST) has a market cap of $786.31 million with a P/E of 4.70 and a P/S of 2.21.

The current share price is $27.19, up 2% from average.

As of April 30, 2013, SAC Capital’s portfolio shows 1585 stocks at a total value of $20.3 billion, with 429 new stocks, and a quarter-over-quarter turnover of 42%.
