RIP "Adam Smith" (George Goodman)

George Goodman, who wrote under the pen name "Adam Smith", died last week. It was his book Supermoney, published in 1972, which I happened to pick up off the bookstore shelf knowing nothing about the author (though he was already well known in Wall Street circles), that introduced me to Warren Buffett. IMO Goodman's writings are still good stuff today, well worth revisiting.
According to Goodman, he was introduced to Buffett by Ben Graham, who wanted Goodman and Buffett to edit a new edition of The Intelligent Investor. Goodman had never heard of Buffett at the time (and according to Goodman, hardly anyone else had either), but they became good friends. After meeting in Omaha to discuss the project, they both declined; Goodman and Buffett both have written that they suggested to Graham that the book didn't need any updating. Goodman has written that he just wasn't the right guy for the job since he was mostly interested in growth stocks at the time. However he came away from his four day first meeting with Buffett with the material to fill a chapter in his new book.
Those interested in reading about Goodman's first interactions with Graham and Buffett will find it in chapter 5 of Supermoney. Goodman credits Buffett as a contributor to the Preface of the 2006 edition of Supermoney, which he titled "Who is Warren Buffett? What is Supermoney?"

[EDIT]  Correction:  Mr. Goodman died yesterday, not last week.
