    I did a study a year or so back and found analysts typically issue buy near top and sell near bottom. That is they are somewhat opposite of value investing. My sample for study was small and random (ie. not a scientific study) but results were remarkably consistent.

    I agree with superguru, timing buys based off analysts reports will put you behind the curve and pay too high of a price.  However, I feel they can be useful as a warning indicator for when to get out, instead of holding on too long when sentiment has turned against a company.

    It's a good indicator of sentiment, but honestly a 5 year hi-lo is just a good IMO.
