    • John, great article as always.  Your articles have really made me focus on ROE when making decisions.  One question I had and hope you can address are the characteristics of companies that maintain 15% ROE for many years.    For example, can a company that maintains 15% ROE do it without buying back stock or paying dividends?   Put another way, is it much easier for a company to maintain the 15%+ ROE if they buy back stock and pay dividends, both of which lower their equity and thus make the 15%+ return target easier.   Thanks.
