(GuruFocus, November 17, 2009) Depending on the day you measure, Carlos Slim might be the third richest person in the world, according to Forbes on March 11, 2009. He is not as well known as No.1 (Bill Gates) and No.2 (Warren Buffett) here in the United States because his business is pretty much south of the border of USA in Mexico and Latin America and his business activities have concentrated in telecommunication industry.

He controls Teléfonos de México (Telmex), Telcel and América Móvil companies.

We have just witnessed Buffett’s spectacular play with railroad company Burlington. And we have watched Gates and Buffett told the Columbia University students and the nation to be optimistic.

What is the No. 3 doing in the meantime?

Slim tells CNBC his insight on his investment choices and why he is branching out now. Never in his life he has seen interest so low and the low cost capital makes many projects profitable.

Perhaps there is an upside in all the stimulus measures and accommodating monetary policies.
