The Stock Spurners Society of value- minded investors is about to lose a prominent member.

For the first time in almost two years, managers at Southeastern Asset Management Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee, say they have lately spotted some interesting new possibilities in the stock market.

``Despite being a yawner in terms of performance, the (first) quarter closed with good news,'' say Mason Hawkins, chairman, and Staley Cates, president, in the latest quarterly report to shareholders of the Longleaf Partners mutual funds. ``We ended with new ideas for all three funds.''
