Well-known value investor Mario Gabelli was on CNBC to discuss US equities and the pockets of the stock market and specific stocks which are attractive.

-- Investing environment: Yes, short-term there is a big rally but market volatility is just a noise and should be ignored. Recommends looking at the company five years down the line.

-- Look for good companies with consistent earnings. Thinks Sara Lee (HSH) spin-off Hillshire Brands is very attractive; someone will buy them.

-- BEAM (BEAM) is another one he loves, a consistent earnings grower.

-- Uncertainty will be removed once election is over and lot of clarity will come into how the regulations will shape up.

--M&A activity will pick up after the election.

-- 2014 will be a very bright year.
