Pickens believes that to move forward and take advantage of the resources that have been unleashed by the energy industry through horizontal drilling with multi-stage fracturing America needs to eliminate archaic rules.
Here is what Pickens suggests:
1 – Stop taxing domestically produced natural gas at higher rates than imported foreign oil. Why put domestic energy sources at a disadvantage?
2 – Re-examine the 40-year-old energy plan that includes the strategic petroleum reserve. We don’t need an SPR of 750 million barrels of oil with the rising level of domestic production and the ability to convert to natural gas.
3 – Develop a formal energy alliance with Mexico and Canada. If we all join together the continent will be able to be energy independent.
