The FAME Student Investment Conference is an annual conference put on by the students of San Francisco State University. Their last event was in November and they recently uploaded the video recording of Li Lu’s presentation there. Li Lu was once rumored to be one of the successors to Warren Buffett at Berkshire Hathaway, but has generally kept out of the spotlight after the Wall Street Journal outed his “candidacy.” As of late he has begun speaking publicly including this presentation to FAME and the upcoming Ira Sohn Conference. Perhaps the most interesting thing about Li Lu is the pricing bubble that developed in sales of the booked he penned in 1990 called “Moving the Mountain.” The book which is ostensibly about his life growing up in China through the Tiananmen Square protests has been out of print for a number of years. Interestingly, right after the Wall Street Journal article the book was selling for nearly $1,000. Today, the same book can be had for as low as $1.35.
