Who is the dataprovider for the financial data?

The raw data is provided by Morningstar. Most of the ratios, valuation numbers are calculated by ourselves.

hi Alvindern,

you can use this link: http://www.gurufocus.com/screener/index.php#&minROE=150&maxROE=175&tab=9

After you get the list, click on ROE column to sort it.

Any chance we could have a field for Current quarter growth rates for sales/earnings?
gurufocus
Gurufocus premium member - 1 year ago
"Current quarter growth rates"? do you mean this quarter relative to previous quarter?

If you mean relative to 12 months ago, our 1-year growth rate should be close enough.

Can you explain to me what the "dividend growth rate" measures. I see here for example a dividend growth rate of 22.90 for CA, however I calculate that the dividend growth rate between 2012 and 2013 is 150% as it increased to $1.00 from $0.40. Data I am using is Morningstar. Furthermore, is the P/E 12 trailing months? Can you describe how the share buyback rate is calculate and what variables are taken into consideration? Thank you.
gurufocus

"dividend growth rate" is the annual compound average rate over the past 5 years.

Hi,Did you happen to make a fix for screening for stocks with a Piotroski score of 9? I now get stocks having a vlaue of 9..

You may want to look at your screen "Stock sold than less cash"..One of your requirements is that Price/Net cash <1....

Look at TIVO..On the summary page it trades for over 6 for Price/Net Cash, yet it is coming up under your screen as having Price/NetCash <1...That is one of many stocks with this issue..

I like the screener alot, but have found many unusual outputs that appear to be in error..

Perhaps I am missing something, but I dont think so:)

Hi,

I see that there is no field for Quarterly earnings and would like to know if I could somehow add that field to the list of stocks that meet my criteria..I try to avoid stocks that have had a disasterous MRQ.

Any thoughts other than doing it manually..
taowave
Taowave - 1 year ago
regarding the price/net cash field.if you do not set a lower boundary,as in 0 or .1,your results will be innacurate. You cant leave it blank as you have it set in your pre set screen..pleae confirm

Gurufocus,

I meant most recent quarter compared to one year ago..

Is your 1 year growth rate TTM vs one year ago or MRQ vs one year ago quarter?

I cant click for a definition

Thanks

Taowave - 1 year ago
If I select 1 year EPS growth rate and select the top 10,I get 10 stocks.5 stocks have astronomical growth rates, but the sixth stock has a growth rate of 8% and the balance have no growth rates displayed.

Something appears to be not working correctly..
gurufocus
Gurufocus premium member - 1 year ago
hi Taowave,

1. The 12-month growth rate is TTM growth rate.

2. We don't support the most recent quarter relative to 1-year ago.

3. Some of the parameters require you to set the minimum values. it might be avoided and we will look into this.

The best way to contact us it to open tickets and we can fix there.

With regards to the insider ownership the minimum value you can select other than 0 is 10% witch is extremely high. It would be nice if you could select some smaller numbers or top #.

Right I am confused about the "Valuation Ratio" (All-in-One Screener) items of Price/DCF XXX. All three seem to give an output inconsistent with what you expect. For example, if I screen a Price/DCF Average between 0.1 and 0.9, I get results that include results of >0.9 as well as companies without a DCF valuation. Is this a glitch with all three ratios ? (note the results heading needs to be repaired)

This is the best screener I’ve found, but I’d really like to see two changes made:

1. Redefine the NCAV variable to: Current Assets – Total Liabilities. This is the standard definition of Net Current Asset Value given by Investopedia, the Gurufocus Net-Net newsletter, Old School Value, etc.

2. Add in a new variable called NNWC (net net working capital), defined as NCAV currently is with AR and inventory discounted.

Gurufocus, can you please make this P/E (NRI) that you speak of a screen criteria in the future along with P/(average of last 3 year's earnings)?
MCube78
MCube78 premium member - 10 months ago
Gurufocus, is there any chance you could add some more consistency to the NCAV criterion? The screener allows you to set P/NCAV, but then in "Active Filters" you get the NCAV (i.e., not P/NCAV) and then if you download the excel file you get (again) P/NCAV but in a column titled NCAV!

Thank you for the good work

I'm irritated at GF at the moment. I have seven screens, all of which have been altered or deleted. When I go through the tedium of rebuilding the simplest of my screens, no list is generated (a list should be generated given how broad the screen in question is). Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Is there some obscure rule that says I must refresh my screens occasionally? Thanks

I've also subscribed to European stocks. Unfortunately the results now include symbols of the "home" exchange plus symbols of a European resp. US exchange. For example TIF and TIF.Germany. This is quite annoying: it makes the list at least twice as long as necessary; sometimes the "foreign" symbol does not include the complete data set. GF should always list the home exchange data only. If someone wishes to see if the stock is listed elsewhere he or she could see it on the stock's main page.

Is anyone aware of a finance website that not only provides raw valuation numbers, such as the trailing PE, but also ratios that take into account one-time adjustments. Leap Frog is a perfect example: It currently has a raw PE of 6.3 (fantastic apparent value), but after taking into account one-time tax benefits used for the Dec 2013 10-K filing, the actual PE is 15.6 (See 3/18/2014 “Seeking Alpha” LF article). I am not referring to forward PE estimates but, rather, adjusted trailing PE’s. Better yet, a website with a screening option for these valuations. This is not a criticism of GuruFocus, since I have yet to find any websites with these numbers (too much labor, as compared to automated computations).

Jeffthro007,

Did you think of just reporting the problem(s) to Charlie? It's a complex site with things sometimes getting screwed up when they make changes, but I've always found the customer service to be very good. Try complaining to Morningstar and see how soon they fix their problems!

Would there be any chance that you could develop a formula that would allow the user to define his own variable e.g. Revenue/Assets?

I'm trying to look at companies based on their asset turnover and finding some solutions to it but something like what I described would be much more elegant.

AMAUDHOO,

the green line is what the stock is worth based on lynch's evaluation method.

the blue line is what the current stock is trading for.

theoretically, if the blue line is substantially under the green line, it means the stock is undervalued and a plausible investment based on lynch's screening method. but you should do more digging and not base your decision on that screen alone.

Good stock screener. I had a couple of questions.

1. When I screen the stock for P/E ratio of 1 to 15, it shows the stocks with an incorrect trailing 12 months P/E ratio. For example NYSE:ESV shows the P/E (ttm) of 8.3 whereas on Google finance the P/E is 27.12. May I please ask if this is correct? Am I missing something?

2. This is about the actual use of ratios. For example P/FCFF ratio, how we're suppose to select the values. Once I select the Price, the numbers in FCFF field will change accordingly. Why is that so? Could you please explain the logic? If you can provide examples that would be great. If its in one of your learning videos, then please let me if you could, the exact time when in the video.

Many thanks.

Hi,

When I run the general screener with the following parameters

avg DCF P/value range 0.1 to 1.2

avg earnings P/value range 0.1 to 1.2

avg FCF p/value 0.1 to 1.2

I get a number of results that are out of range for example

avg DCF P/value range values up to 7.25

avg earnings P/value range values up to 17.95

avg FCF p/value values up to 2.35 and a number of blank values and some values less than 0.1 also show up.

Is this a glith in the program?

cheers

Hi,

Symbol CEO

When I use the screener and list the avg earnings P/value it shows 0.31 which agrees with the margin of safety of 69% on the DCF calculator but on the summary tab for symbol CEO under the "Valuation & Return" box the price/DCF ( projected) is listed as 0.80 but it should say 0.31. Could you explain this apparent error please?

taowave
Taowave - 3 months ago
Hi,I am looking at your P/DCF field and it appears to be inconsistent.

If I select 1 as my upper limit, the EPS based model works as I expected and no values are greater that 1.However,if I choose the CF based model, with an upper limit of 1,I get values that are all > 1.Are you showing the inverse by accident? If I choose the Avg approach,I get values as low as .58 and as high as 2.58..

Can you please confirm, and also confirm why EV/Sales is showing up negative..
