The financial services company H&R Block, Inc. (HRB) narrowed their third quarter loss to $47.4 million or $0.14 a share compared to a loss of $60.3 million or $0.18 a share from 2006. HRB earned $9.3 million or $0.03 a share compared to $21.9 million in 2006. H&R Block cut costs by discontinuing its Option One Mortgage Corporation; however, write-downs from sub-prime mortgages and 3.5% decline in tax clients played down on the profits.

Digital wireless communication services provider in Latin America NII Holdings, Inc. (NIHD) widened their profits 19% as higher subscriptions kicked up revenue. NIHD’s income climbed to $128.5 million or $0.71 from $107.9 million or $0.60 from a year ago.


Since the prior quarter, George Soros, Bill Miller, and Ron Baron bought shares of NIHD.

The retail giant Wal-Mart Stores, Inc (WMT)’s fourth quarter profits rose 13% as revenue from holiday increased 8.6%. Walmart’s income increased to $3.6 billion or $0.86 compared to $3.2 billion or $0.75. For the fiscal year ended in January, Walmart’s income increased 9.4% to $11.2 billion or $2.68 a share.


George Soros and Kenneth Fisher bought Walmart shares in the last quarter. Warren Buffett kept his 19,944,300 shares about the same as did other gurus: Tom Gayner,


Bill Nygren, Ronald Muhlenkamp, Richard Snow, Dodge & Cox, Brian Rogers, Tweedy Browne, Ruane Cunniff, Arnold Van Den Berg, Chris Davis, Richard Pzena, and Mark Hillman. Robert Olstein sold out of his Walmart holdings, as HOTCHKIS & WILEY, Joel Greenblatt, Wallace Weitz, and Jean-Marie Eveillard reduced their shares.

The company earned $24.4 million or $0.59 per share compared with profit of $18 million or $0.45 per share in the fourth quarter of 2006. Revenue rose 21% to $262.7 million from $216.3 million.
