Green Mountain Coffee Roasters will buy back some of the newly issued shares under its current $1.1 billion share repurchase authorization to reduce the dilution effect on its existing owners. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters will utilize some of the proceeds to develop a Keurig Cold system, eventually enabling people to mix a homemade glass of Coca-Cola products.
Facing Some Competition in the Field
Coca-Cola’s largest competitor is PepsiCo (NYSE:PEP). There is intense competition between the two companies. Over the next decade Coke's global reach should give it the edge in the regions that offer the greatest growth. Moreover, Pepsi's success with snack foods may prove harder to maintain as consumers worry more about salt and fats.

The company press release highlights its low 30 calorie count and low carbs amounting to only 12 grams. Initially the product will be distributed at 7-Elevens in the country with a wider distribution coming at the "end of May." While this may hardly move the needle on Coca-Cola's global carbonated soda business, it certainly represents a move in the right direction to rejuvenate consumer interest in its increasingly stigmatized soda segment.
New products are extremely important to long term investors as they will likely make or break these companies in the years to come. With that said, geographic expansion and product innovation is a must for these large and mature companies facing shifting consumer tastes.
