Delphi Financial Group Inc. (DFG): Director Kevin R. Brine Bought 75,000 Shares

Due to heavy investment losses, Delphi Financial Group, Inc. (DFG), employee benefit service provider, posted a lower quarterly income at $21.1 million or $0.42 a share, compared to $39.2 million or $0.76 a share. Earnings guidance for 2008 was subsequently lowered to $3 and $3.30 a share from $3.45 and $3.60 a share.


Richard Pzena owns 722,121 shares and George Soros sold out all his Delphi shares as of 12/31/07.


Director of Delphi Financial Group Inc. Kevin R Brine bought 75,000 shares during the past week at $27.54. Since late-February Director Brine has purchased a total of 225,000 shares at $25.38 to $30.34.

National City Corp. (NCC): Director Morry Weiss Bought 140,000 Shares

Early-May, Dispatch Printing Company sued the financial holding company National City Corporation (NCC) for diluting their interest in NCC. Dispatch Printing is trying to block NCC’s $7 billion share sale at $5 per share. National City shares rose late-April, when NCC announced that their plans to raise $7 billion will cut their debt. Debt from risky sub-prime mortgages forced the company to cut 3,400 jobs in the last quarter. First quarter, National City lost $0.27 a share compared to earnings of $319 million or $0.50 a share.


Charles Brandes, HOTCHKIS & WILEY, Arnold Schneider, and Brian Rogers own shares of NCC. David Dreman and Kenneth Fisher sold out their shares in National City Corp.


Director of National City Corp. Morry Weiss bought 140,000 shares during the past week at $6.50. Additionally, Director Morry Weiss bought 60,000 more shares on 4/25/08 at $6.19.


National City Corp. has a market cap of $3.98 billion; its shares were traded at around $6.5 with P/S ratio of 0.85. The dividend yield of National City Corp. stocks is 0.6%.

Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ): EVP & Chief Technology Officer Richard J. Lynch Bought 20,000 Shares

Verizon Communications, Inc. (VZ) magnified their quarterly profit to $1.6 billion or $0.57 per share from $1.5 billion or $0.51 per share a year ago. Revenue increased 5.5% to $23.8 billion as the company added 1.5 million wireless subscribers for the quarter. Quest Communications International Inc., which worked with Sprint in 2007, recently signed a 5-year contract with Verizon Wireless. The contract translates to more subscribers to be added to Verizon, when the contract becomes effective this summer.


Jean-Marie Eveillard, Richard Aster Jr., Richard Snow, Mark Hillman, and Kenneth Fisher added Verizon shares to their holdings; David Dreman, Brian Rogers, NWQ Managers, Dodge & Cox, Tweedy Browne, and Charles Brandes kept their shares about the same; George Soros reduced his shares 60%; and Richard Pzena sold out his holdings.


EVP & Chief Technology Officer Richard J. Lynch bought 20,000 shares of VZ stock on 4/29/08 at $38, and Director John W. Snow bought 1,000 shares on 2/6/08 at $36.92.

Northrop Grumman Corp. (NOC): Director Phillip Md. Et Al Frost Bought 10,000 Shares

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NOC) provides products, services, and solutions in information and services, aerospace, electronics, and shipbuilding to the military, government, and commercial customers in the U.S. Northrop Grumman’s quarterly profits declined 32% to $264 million or $0.76 a share from $387 million or $1.10 a share in 2007. The company faced higher expenses and a $326 million pretax charge from its amphibious ship contract with the Navy. NOC expect the 2008 profits to be between $4.90 and $5.15 a share.


Dodge & Cox, Kenneth Fisher, David Dreman, Richard Pzena, and HOTCHKIS & WILEY own shares of Northrup Grumman.

Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. (RCL)’s first quarter profits surged to $75.6 million or $0.35 a share from $8.8 million or $0.04 a share in the previous year. The second largest cruise operator posted a 17% revenue growth to $1.43 billion from $1.22 billion, on higher sales and increased ship capacity.


As John Rogers, Richard Aster Jr., Bruce Sherman, and Arnold Schneider kept their shares of RCL, George Soros sold out his holdings in the quarter that ended on 12/31/07.
