One of the several striking feature of Apple (AAPL, Financial) devices is the smooth flow of work between the devices and the connected devices experience. Even when being used separately, MacBook and iPhone are highly productive devices. So just imagine the kind of productivity that can be achieved if the devices start complementing the work done through them.

Apple is all set to launch the new OS X Yosemite for its Mac line up and iOS 8 for iPhones and iPads. With the launch of these two new platforms, the connected devices experience will shoot up as the new Continuity feature will make using the devices very convenient. Because of this feature, a user will be able to start a project on his iPhone or iPad, and finish it on the Mac without interruption between work timings. That’s something smart!

So, let’s find out, one by one, how the two high margin products of Apple –iPhone and MacBook – would become more intelligent models.

The Mac With Upgraded Features

For Apple, OS X redesigning meant going deep into every aspect of the interface, however large or small, and making them even better. Translucency has been added to certain interface elements in Yosemite and the toolbars have been streamlined without losing their optimal capabilities. Some of the favorite apps like the Safari, Maps and Calendar will have a new look along with better working capabilities.

There will be changes in the Spotlight feature as well, that has been redesigned and now will appear in the front and center when the MacBook is opened. It will not only aid in looking up information from Wikipedia, Bing, Maps to name a few, but will also give interactive previews of the results.

Ad Network Chitika explains- “The increased level of aggregate activity for Yosemite is likely partially driven by the prominent changes present in this OS version fueling a higher degree of developer curiosity and experimentation. The changes to Safari in particular may be prompting a greater amount of Web usage from current users in terms of testing and customization.”

The iOS 8 Upgradation

iOS 8 will bring the most revolutionary and the heaviest improvements in iOS till date. This operating system on the iPhone will come with innovative features such as adding a voice note to your text message, new keyboard options to share the created content, and usage of iCloud and Touch ID in ways never thought before.

The operating system will make smartphone activities more interactive by allowing every photo, every edit or every album to remain in the iCloud Photo Library automatically, along with the advantage of powerful editing. It will provide time savings features for managing mails and will offer new ways to respond to notifications.

Overall, it will offer the smartest keyboard that will make typing easier by suggesting contextually proper words to complete the sentences. iOS 8 will come with recognition features allowing the user to recognize to whom the message is being sent and whether the user is into mail or messages. Also the iCloud drive will allow users to download any file from anywhere and work on it.

Checking The Compatibility Factor

Continuity is a feature which has been added to iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite that allows iPhone, iPad and MacBook to work together seamlessly, thus making the Apple devices smarter. This feature includes Handoff - a new cross device compatible AirDrop, a new instant Hotspot for effortless tethering - which works for passing app activities back and forth between the two devices, and also calling or messaging from the iPhone on the Mac.

Last Word

Apple has always made products that have worked very well with each other, and this Continuity feature will add greatly to the user experience. Once the iPhone and MacBook become even more compatible, working with both of the devices simultaneously will remain no challenge, placing Apple devices in a bright spot.
