General Electric Company (GE): Chairman and CEO, Director Jeffrey R. Immelt Bought 115,000 Shares


Conglomerate General Electric Company (GE) will be selling their appliance businesses for between $5 and $8 billion. GE lowered their first quarter net income by 6% to $4.3 billion or $0.43 a share compared to a previous $4.6 billion or $0.44 a share, despite revenue 7.7% increase in revenue to $42.2 billion. International markets showed strength with 22% year-to-year revenue gain; however, commercial financing sector was weak with 20% drop in year-to-year profits.


Arnold Van Den Berg, Ken Heebner, Chris Davis, and Dodge & Cox bought shares in GE in the last quarter. Jean-Marie Eveillard reduced his GE holdings 24% and George Soros sold out all his GE holdings. Other gurus kept their shares about the same: Warren Buffett, Tweedy Browne, Bill Miller, Ruane Cunniff, Richard Snow, Brian Rogers, NWQ Managers, Kenneth Fisher, Tom Gayner, Mark Hillman, Ronald Muhlenkamp, and David Dreman


Chairman and CEO, Director Jeffrey R. Immelt bought 115,000 shares on 5/28/08 at $30.61; as of December, CEO Immelt has bought a total of 302,000 shares between $30.61 and $36.59. Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. (DKS): Chairman, CEO and President, Director, 10% Owner Edward W Stack Bought 46,000 Shares


The shares of Dick's Sporting Goods, Inc. (DKS) shifted to a 52-week low in the first quarter, as they lowered their 2008 earnings on weak consumer spending. Earnings of the sporting goods retailer were flat at $20.8 million or $0.18 per share compared with $21.7 million or $0.19 per share in 2007. The company’s quarterly revenue rose 11% to $912.1 million.


Ron Baron and Steve Mandel kept their holdings in DKS about the same, and Jean-Marie Eveillard reduced his DKS holdings 28%.


Chairman, CEO and President, Director, 10% Owner Edward W. Stack bought 46,000 shares on 5/27/08 at $21.92; and Director William J. Colombo bought 11,000 shares on 5/28/08 at $22.32.


Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. has a market cap of $2.5 billion; its shares were traded at around $23.15 with a P/E ratio of 16.91 and P/S ratio of 0.65.


Inverness Medical Innovations Inc (IMA): Chairman, CEO & President, Director Ron Zwanziger Bought 27,600 Shares


Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc. (IMA) manufactures and markets medical diagnostic products and vitamins. Late-May, IMA announced that they will gain $1.2 billion in a joint venture in the health management business. IMA recently acquired Matria Healthcare, Inc for $143.9 million and 1.8 million shares of IMAPR.B stock. The company earned $0.48 per diluted share compared to $0.31 per diluted share in 2007.


George Soros cut nearly all his holdings in IMA down to 20,175 shares, as Ron Baron kept his 700,000 shares unchanged.


Chairman, CEO & President, Director Ron Zwanziger bought 27,600 shares on 6/2/08 at $36.16; Director John F. Levy and VP Michael K. Bresson bought 17,000 shares and 2,500 shares, respectively.

For the quarter, Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (VRX) made profit of $9.5 million or $0.11 a share compared to $9.3 million or $0.10 last year. Despite slight increase in gain, the specialty pharmaceutical company lost $3.9 million or $0.04 a share when adjusted for continuing operations, and revenue fell 5% from $204.4 million to $194.7 million. VRX announced in May that they will restructure within the next year and cut 50% of their workforce, which includes the sale of their European businesses.


Jean-Marie Eveillard bought 507,660 shares of VRX in the last quarter.


CEO and Chairman of the Board, Director J. Michael Pearson and EVP Elisa A. Karlson bought 50,906 shares and 2,138 shares, accordingly on 5/30/08 at $16.37.


Valeant Pharmaceuticals International has a market cap of $1.44 billion; its shares were traded at around $16.37 with P/S ratio of 1.64.


Huntsman Corp. (HUN): President, CEO, Director, 10% Owner Peter R. Huntsman Bought 20,000 Shares


Chemical company Huntsman Corporation (HUN)’s first quarter earnings fell 84% to $7.3 million or $0.03 a share compared to $46.6 million or $0.20 a share in 2007. Inflation and more expensive starting material cut into profits, although revenue increased 13% to $2.54 billion from $2.25 billion. To offset rising prices, Huntsman decided to increase their product prices by 25%, after Dow Chemical raised their prices 20%. Hexion Specialty Chemicals Company plans to purchase Huntsman for $6.5 billion. HUN set their dividend at $0.10 for the quarter.


Charles Brandes sold most of his holdings in Huntsman Corp; he currently owns 10,644 shares as of 3/31/08.
