The wireless carriers in the U.S. have been trying to impress the U.S. consumers with their new deals and the two famous rivals T-Mobile US Inc. (TMUS, Financial) and Sprint Corp. (S, Financial) were the first to entice new subscribers during this Memorial Day weekend. The deals floated by both these carriers were comparable as they aimed at improving the pre-paid subscriber count during this summer season which traditional remains the time when such wireless carriers compete to win the majority of the subscription base in any region in the U.S. Let’s quickly have a look at what offers are being provided by either of these carriers in the U.S. around this time of the year.

The offers are similar

To boost their subscriber base for the pre-paid offerings both the companies have launched comparable set of promotions that clearly indicate that the competition is just heating up around the summer season among the wireless carriers.

As reported by Wave7 Research, Sprint’s pre-paid brand, Boost Mobile , is offering a promo deal for its existing customers who enjoy the $45 and $55 monthly plans. To keep the customers happy and to reduce shifting to schemes launched by other operators, Boost Mobile has agreed to offer more data than that enjoyed earlier such these two existing plans. In the $45 plan the customers used to receive upto 5GB of data, but now the amount of data sharing has been doubled to 10 GB under the same plan. Similarly, for the $55 monthly plan, the data sharing has been increased to 20 GB from the regular 10GB being provided earlier.

For the new customers, or customers switching from other wireless operators, there is more good news besides the improvement in data sharing with lower tariffs. There is free smartphone offer for such customers, and they will be able to choose from the existing device inventory available with Boost Mobile at that point of time which would include smartphones like Motorola Solution’s (MSI, Financial) Moto E, LG Tribute, LG Volt and Microsoft Corporation’s (MSFT, Financial) Lumia 635.

Working on similar lines, Sprint’s immediate contender T-Mobile US Inc.’s prepaid brand, MetroPCS, is offering smartphone free of cost for customer switching from Boost Mobile or any other wireless carriers. To make the offer more lucrative than that being offered by Boost Mobile, the company has agreed to issue a $50 credit to customers interested in other phone options. It is notable that in order to beat Boost Mobile in the promotional space, MetroPCS is about to re-launch its “4 for $100” offer which would allow customers to win four free smartphones with 2GB high-speed data for each line, along with option for having unlimited texting and talk time.

Both the companies have launched such competing offers for a limited period of time, starting now, though further details on these offers with respect to their time limits is still to find mention. In fact, such cutthroat competition between these two peers has been continuing over the past couple of years and it remains to be seen as to who emerges the winner during this promotional season, in the battle to outdo each other.

Parting word

Though such deals might not look too surprising from these wireless carriers, it remains to be assessed as to who actually wins the show during this season as both are competing neck to neck to beat the other in the race to win more subscribers for their pre-paid brands. Let’s stay tuned for the subscription numbers to their networks that would provide insight into who finally emerges the winner.
