Twitter (TWTR, Financial) has pulled up the socks to pitch for a massive exposure across the web as it has entered into partnership with Google (GOOG, Financial). This is a grand return of Twitter to Google after four years. The only wear and tear, apart from a slew of benefits, of this deal is that Twitter will find it hard to monetize and control its content. The iOS app and Android are the torchbearers of this deal to have introduced embedded Twitter results.

Deal details

  • Google will feature the entire roundabout of tweets so that when you search a celebrity or hash-tag (#), you will be able to peep into a few tweets.
  • By putting the Twitter carousal on the top, which Google has secured for its personal services Google will provide links to personal tweets coupled up with featuring Twitter’s own search results that are pretty easily monetized by Twitter.
  • Twitter is also running a risk of not being able to monetize the additional engagement it would receive from the Google search results.

Positive outcomes of the deal

This is completely a win-win for Google as it is not only going to take humungous control over the tweets but also by obtaining the content within tweets frequently enough to find out breaking news or fresh happenings, Twitter will be completely under influence of Google. Furthermore, Google will receive all the data from Twitter by a data feed which will keep Google crawling into Twitter to obtain information which in turn will result into Google obtaining myriad times more access to the tweet stream effortlessly. Google will also be able to index a greater number of tweets than before seamlessly. Twitter, on the other hand, is excited about the deal as it will get way more exposure which will prompt more people to sign up for its service.

Apart from indexing popular tweets, Google will also be dedicated to keep its end of the bargain by bringing forth the most useful information from Twitter. Google will consider them high value contents which will have coherent images, hash-tags and improve drives which will help a person or page expand its follower base and in turn Twitter will see an upsurge traffic and user count. The dovetail between Twitter and Google is going to heal the failure of Google+ and throw the partnership between Bing, Facebook (FB, Financial) and Twitter out of gear. Bing, as per analysts, is a weaker competition to Google which will by no means harm the success run of this deal. Google will also benefit from the partnership by increasing and spreading the inventory available to its advisory partners. This will give a thumbs up to Twitter’s advertisements as it will also claim a share in the revenue.

Parting thoughts

It’s a win-win game for both Google and Twitter because Twitter is all set to benefit from Google’s ability to reach more audience in a much shorter time. On the flip side of the coin, Google will also benefit from featuring Twitter’s updated and fresh news and recent happenings. As a result, the advertising revenue will be pretty lucrative for both the partners. By partnering with Google, Twitter will come off as a better player in digital media landscape and add to the investor’s coffers.
