Shares of USG Corp. rose 8.3 percent on speculation its biggest shareholder, Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc., may want to buy the company or increase its stake in the world's largest maker of gypsum wallboard.

``There may be speculation that Warren Buffett is looking to buy the entire company, which I think he would like to do at the right price,'' James Barrett, an analyst at CL King & Associates in New York, said in an interview. ``I don't think Warren is bidding for the company at this time.''

A USG spokesman wasn't available to comment, and Buffett didn't immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment.
