US Market Indexes Continue to Gain With Positive Earnings Outlook

Stocks rising as momentum in equities continues

U.S. market indexes were higher on Tuesday, continuing to gain for the week.

On Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 18,347.67 for a gain of 120.74 points or 0.66%. The Standard & Poor's 500 was also higher, closing at 2,152.14 for a gain of 14.98 points or 0.70%. The Nasdaq Composite closed higher at 5,022.82 for a gain of 34.18 points or 0.69%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher for the day at 13.59 for a gain of 0.05 points or 0.37%.

In the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the following stocks led gains:

The market’s leading economic indicators on Tuesday included the NFIB Small Business Optimism Index, JOLTS and Wholesale Trade. The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index improved to 94.5 from 93.8 and beat consensus of 94. The JOLTS job openings report was lower for May at 5.5 million versus 5.788 million in the previous month. Wholesale trade was up 0.1% for the month after gaining 0.7% in the previous month.

U.S. stocks continued their gains on Tuesday as companies beat earnings expectations for the second quarter and economic indicators appeared stable. In a CNBC report Tuesday, market specialist, Bob Doll discussed some of the factors helping stock valuations overall in the current market environment.
