Warren Buffett Q2: Boosts Apple, Cuts Wal-Mart & Suncor by Nearly a Third

Buffett's new portfolio shows a number of other reductions and increases in 2nd quarter

Warren Buffett (Trades, Portfolio) dropped his fresh, second-quarter portfolio Monday afternoon, showing the investor had little purchasing activity during the second quarter but made some surprising moves.

Buffett shares the portfolio he maintains for his company, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A, Financial)(BRK.B, Financial), with two managers, Ted Weschler and Todd Combs. The newer managers started out investing smaller amounts of Berkshire’s money, but their responsibility has grown since joining the company. Generally, the largest buys are made by Buffett, but it is difficult to distinguish for certain who purchased a stock.

Buffett has said he purchased oil refiner Phillips 66 (PSX, Financial) and added to the position in the second quarter. The portfolio showed Berkshire increased its investment in various classes of stock of Liberty Global PLC.

Buffett also cut one of his longest-held positions, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., by almost a third, and did not fully sell out of any positions.

More than 39% of Berkshire’s portfolio of 49 stocks is invested the consumer defensive sector and 30.8% is in financial services.

Liberty Global PLC (LILA, Financial)

Berkshire’s portfolio shows a 425% increase in Liberty Global LILA shares, bringing the position to 2,714,854 shares. It has a 0.07% position.

Liberty Global Plc has a market cap of $26.86 billion; its shares were traded around $29.20 with and P/S ratio of 1.68. Liberty Global Plc had an annual average earnings growth of 4.10% over the past 10 years.

Liberty Global PLC (LILAK)

Berkshire portfolio shows a 249.5% increase in its Liberty Global LILAK shares, bringing the position to 1,284,020 shares. It has a 0.03% position.

Apple Inc. (AAPL, Financial)

Berkshire shows a 55.2% increase to its Apple position, which it started in the first quarter, bringing it to 15,277,702 shares. It has a 1.12% position.
