Stocks the investor bought in the 2nd and 3rd quarters

Jeremy Grantham (Trades, Portfolio) is the chairman of Grantham Mayo Van Otterloo, a Boston-based asset management firm. In both the second and third quarters the guru bought shares in the following stocks:

Noble Corp. PLCĂ‚ (NE)

During the second quarter, the guru increased his holding by 56.70% and increased it by 3.45% in the third quarter.

The guru holds 0.05% of outstanding shares in the company, which is an offshore drilling contractor for the oil and gas industry. It performs contract drilling services with its fleet of mobile offshore drilling units. Third-quarter net loss was $55 million, or 23 cents per diluted share, on revenues of $385 million compared to net income of $323 million, or $1.28 per diluted share, on revenues of $895 million in the same quarter of a year before.

Ensco PLC Class AĂ‚ (ESV)

During the second quarter, the investor increased his position by 64.31% and by 42.94% in the third quarter.

The guru holds 0.05% of outstanding shares in the company, which provides offshore contract drilling services to national and international oil companies. It operates in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Mexico, Brazil, the Mediterranean, the North Sea, the Middle East, West Africa, Australia and Southeast Asia. During the third quarter earnings per share was 28 cents compared to $1.24 a year ago and revenues were $548 million in the third quarter compared to $1.012 billion in the same quarter of a year before.

Simons is the largest shareholder among the gurus with 2.4% of outstanding shares followed by Cohen with 0.82%, Arnold Van Den Berg (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.3%, Dalio with 0.2%, Greenblatt with 0.18%, PRIMECAP Management (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.05% and NWQ Managers (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.03%.

The Mosaic Co. (MOS)

During second quarter, the guru increased his holding by 41.16% and by 3.39% in the third quarter.

The guru holds 0.02% of outstanding shares in the company, which produces and markets concentrated phosphate and potash crop nutrients. It is organized into the two business segments: Phosphates and Potash. Third-quarter net earnings were $39 million, down from net earnings of $160 million in the third quarter of a year before.

During the second quarter, the investor boosted his stake by 333.20% and by 6.08% in the third quarter.

The guru holds 0.22% of outstanding shares in the company, which engages in land contract drilling of natural gas and oil wells, exploration, development, acquisition and production of oil and natural gas properties. Its activities also include buying, selling, gathering and processing of natural gas in U.S. During the third quarter net loss was $24.0 million, or 48 cents per share, compared to a net loss of $205.3 million, or $4.18 per share, for the third quarter of 2015.

Van Den Berg is the largest shareholder among the gurus with 2.57% of outstanding shares followed by Chuck Royce (Trades, Portfolio) with 2.22%, Simons with 1.11% and Arnold Schneider (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.46%.

Icon PLC ADRĂ‚ (ICLR)

During the second quarter, the guru increased his position by 224.69% and by 68.08% in the third quarter.

The guru holds 0.08% of outstanding shares in the company, which is a contract research organization that provides outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries. During the third quarter net revenues grew 6.4%, and income from operations increased 13.7% from the same quarter of a year before.

The largest shareholder among the gurus is Ron Baron (Trades, Portfolio) with 1.67% of outstanding shares followed by Meridian Funds (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.55%, Cohen with 0.3%, Simons with 0.27% and Royce with 0.26%.

Murphy Oil Corp. (MUR)

During the second quarter, the investor increased his holding by 36.85% and then boosted it by 70.24% in the third quarter.

The guru holds 0.09% of outstanding shares in the company, which is an oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in the U.S., Canada, Malaysia and all other countries. Third quarter net loss was $16.2 million, or 9 cents per diluted share, for the third quarter and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) from continuing operations was $17.80 per barrel of oil equivalent sold.

HOTCHKIS & WILEY is the largest shareholder among the gurus 5.97% of outstanding shares followed by Richard Pzena (Trades, Portfolio) with 5.55%, First Eagle Investment (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.01% and Greenblatt with 0.01%.

HP Inc. (HPQ)

During the second and third quarters the position saw huge increases –Â by 485.33% in the second quarter and by 171.48% in the third quarter.

The guru holds 0.04% of outstanding shares in the company, which provides products, technologies, software, solutions and services to individual consumers, small- and medium-sized businesses including customers in the government, health and education sectors. Third-quarter GAAP net revenue decreased 4%, and GAAP net earnings from continuing operations increased 20%.

The largest shareholder among the gurus is Dodge & Cox with 11.37% of outstanding shares followed by PRIMECAP Management with 3.67%, Pzena with 1.01%, HOTCHKIS & WILEY with 0.58%, Chris Davis (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.43%, Greenblatt with 0.15% and Donald Yacktman (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.13%.

British American Tobacco PLC ADRĂ‚ (BTI)

During the second quarter, the guru raised his holding by 442.46% and by 39.78% in the third quarter.

The guru currently holds 0.01% of outstanding shares in the company, which is a holding company that owns, directly or indirectly, investments in the numerous companies constituting the British American Tobacco Group. Its brand portfolio includes Dunhill, Kent, Lucky Strike and Pall Mall.
