US Market Indexes Higher for the Week

U.S. market indexes were lower on Friday but finished the week with gains. For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 20093.78 for a loss of 7.13 points or 0.04%. The S&P 500 closed at 2294.69 for a loss of 1.99 points or 0.09%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 5660.78 for a gain of 5.61 points or 0.10%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower at 10.58 for a loss of 0.05 points or 0.47%.

For the week, the Dow Jones gained 1.21%, the S&P 500 gained 1.01% and the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.87%.

• New orders for durable goods were down 0.4%.
• Fourth quarter GDP growth decreased to 1.9% SAAR.
• The University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index was reported at 98.5, which was an increase from 98.1.
• The North American Baker Hughes rig count increased to 1,057.
