U.S. market indexes were mixed on Thursday. For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 20810.32 for a gain of 34.72 points or 0.17%. The S&P 500 closed at 2363.81 for a gain of 0.99 points or 0.04%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 5835.51 for a loss of -25.12 points or -0.43%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower for the day at 11.71 for a loss of -0.03 points or -0.26%.

Thursday’s market movers

Economic reports affecting market trading on Thursday included the following:

  • The Chicago Fed National Activity Index decreased to -0.05 from 0.18.
