SOME banks are still doomed. - the title of the article is misleading.

He is basically saying that some banks are insolvent and the gov't can not save them. That's baloney. Any bank can be saved. It is simply a matter of diluting shareholder value.

Macroeconomics In the Globe and Mail, economist Wendy Dobson mocks economist Nouriel Roubini as “the bleeding edge of prognostication.”

Prof. Roubini manages to “sell subscriptions to his blog at very high prices” precisely because “his forecasts have proven to be right in the past – against the contrary views of most economists.”

Roubini's calls have been right, but most prognosticators overstay their welcome and almost never change views until it has already happened. I am guessing Meridith Whitney will also be negative too long on banks.

This is why very few investors can beat the market over long periods of time - money managers unusually operate best in either bull or bear markets as they are often "hardwired" to thrive in certain market environments.

However, I still maintain that investors who invest like they are buying a business (buy strong business at discount to intrinsic value) do the best long term.
