The VIX Volatility Index was higher for the day at 11.22 for a gain of 0.04 points or 0.36%.
Monday’s market movers
The stock market closed at 1 p.m. for the Fourth of July holiday. Trading was light to start the first day of the second half of the year. Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- Auto sales for June were released. Auto sales are reportedly lower than May. Approximately three-quarters of sales have been reported and the consensus is for total vehicle sales of 16.6 million.
- The PMI Manufacturing Index was reported at 52, a decrease from 52.7 and below consensus of 52.2.
- The ISM Manufacturing Index was reported at 57.8. Prior was 54.9 and consensus was 55.1.
- Construction spending was unchanged for the month. Construction spending increased 4.5% year over year.

The Dow Jones Small-Cap Growth TSM Index closed at 8588.78 for a gain of 36.52 points or 0.43%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Value TSM Index closed at 9659.83 for a gain of 112.27 points or 1.18%.
