We are pleased to announce that GuruFocus user Sivaram had the top Forum post in September and thus earns a free copy of “Invest Like a Guru,” our Founder’s value investing book.

The top Forum post asked users the following question: “What is your favorite stock if valuations were reasonable?”

Background

We will ask each month’s Forum winner a set of questions just like how sports commentators do in press conferences:

  1. What is your investing background and strategy?
  2. Do you have a favorite sector? If so, why that sector? If not, what stock would you invest in today and why?
  3. What suggestions do you have for our Forum? Do you have specific topics you would like to see?

Our winner said that while he does not have a favorite sector, he avoids companies in the financials, health care, software technology and consumer defensive sectors. Instead, he prefers retail, broadcasting and entertainment companies. Some of his stock picks include Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (CMG, Financial), The Western Union Co. (WU, Financial), Entercom Communications Corp. (ETM, Financial) and Cinemark Holdings Inc. (CNK, Financial).

As discussed in a previous article, our top Forum posts for September include:

Suggestions for improvement

According to our Forum winner, we can increase our user base by adding some question and answer sections with successful investors. We also encourage our users to post topics on Strategies & Tactics, Global Investing and Timeless Articles / Speeches.

Please continue adding good posts to the Forum as we want to see good Forum growth month over month.

Disclosure: I do not have any postions in the stocks mentioned.
