We are pleased to announce our first major new feature of 2018, the FilingWiz.
As the name suggests, the FilingWiz is a software wizard that allows you retrieve company filings. Figure 1 shows a sample screenshot.

Accessing the FilingWiz
You can access the FilingWiz directly by clicking the “FilingWiz” tab on the blue GuruFocus ribbon. Alternatively, you can first access a company’s summary page and then click on “FilingWiz” among the tabs in the gray ribbon. Figure 2.1 shows the former method while Figure 2.2 shows the latter method using Apple Inc. (AAPL, Financial) as an example.

Feature highlights
As illustrated in Figure 1, the FilingWiz contains five key parts.
1. Search Query Box
The “Search Query Box” contains various cells that allow you to retrieve specific filings. You can limit the results to specific stocks, sectors or filing types. For example, you can view Walmart Inc.’s (WMT, Financial) 10-Q and 10-K filings from the past three years by selecting the appropriate items in each cell.
2. Search Results
The Search Results column will list the filings that match the criteria you selected in the Search Query Box. Click on a filing to view that document in the “Document View.”
3. Highlights
You can search for specific keywords within a filing like “comparable store sales” or “FFO reconciliation.” The Highlights column will highlight portions of the filing that match the keywords entered. Click on a specific highlight to view that portion of the selected filing.
4. Save, Load and Clear
Click the Save button to save a certain query for later. You can then access your saved queries by clicking Load. Finally, click the Clear button to clear the cells in the Search Query Box.
5. Document View
The core of the FilingWiz, Document View contains the selected filing based on criteria provided in Items 1 through 3. You will notice the following blue buttons throughout the document: "export table to Excel" and "combine past tables." Click on the former button to export the highlighted table as an Excel spreadsheet. If you click on the “combine past tables” button, you will see a screen like the one shown in Figure 3.

6. TableViewer
Figure 3 illustrates the TableViewer, which allows you to compare a specific data table to similar tables from previous filings. For example, you will be able to view Welltower Inc.’s (HCN, Financial) funds from operations reconciliations from December 2017 and December 2016 side by side.
