BOCA RATON, Fla., Aug. 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ADT Inc. (: ADT), the leading provider of monitored security and interactive home and business automation solutions in the United States and Canada, celebrated a LifeSaver event today in Estero, Fla. where a family survived potentially-deadly levels of carbon monoxide due to their ADT security system and first responders.

The incident happened one night this summer when Brian DiGrazio parked his wife’s car in the garage of their Florida home. The vehicle has keyless ignition and a quiet engine.

“I had the keys in my pocket and didn’t hear the engine running as I closed the garage door and went inside,” said DiGrazio. “At 3:25 a.m. the alarm went off and ADT called to say it was carbon monoxide and to go outside.”

On the phone was ADT Emergency Dispatcher Fred Cannon who had received the alarm signal at ADT’s Customer Care Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. After Cannon called the DiGrazio’s he then phoned 911 which dispatched first responders.

Using portable detection devices, firefighters determined there were high levels of the “silent killer” seeping from the garage into the home. Large fans were brought in to air out the house while the DiGrazio’s and their two daughters spent the rest of the night at a motel.

“The next day I called ADT and ordered three more carbon monoxide detectors,” said Jackie DiGrazio. “Without the first one we would’ve gone to bed that night and never woke up.”

To show their appreciation, the DiGrazios welcomed Cannon at their home and helped recognize him with ADT’s highest honor, the LifeSaver Award.

“I am humbled beyond words and accept this prestigious award on behalf of all my colleagues in ADT Customer Care who work 24/7 to help save lives and protect property,” said Cannon. “This is certainly the highlight of my seven-year career at ADT.”

ADT also presented $5,000 to Estero Fire Rescue in appreciation of the fast and thorough response firefighters made to the DiGrazio home.
