The honorees will be recognized today at the 30th Annual HBA Woman of the Year (WOTY) luncheon in New York City for their leadership within the healthcare industry.

“We’re thrilled to see the industry take notice of Tara and Kari, leaders who exemplify the inclusive and collaborative leadership style that we cultivate at Syneos Health,” said Alistair Macdonald, Chief Executive Officer, Syneos Health. “These honors validate the outstanding results they’ve produced for our biopharmaceutical customers and the impact they’ve had from mentoring their colleagues.”

HBA is a global nonprofit organization comprised of individuals and organizations spanning the healthcare industry committed to furthering the advancement and impact of women in the business of healthcare. Each year, the organization celebrates women leaders across the life sciences and healthcare industry through their “Luminary” and “Rising Star” award program at the WOTY luncheon.

Syneos Health leaders will be recognized this year in both the Luminary and Rising Star categories.

  • Luminary: Honoring women with more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry who serve as role models in their companies, actively mentoring and supporting career development while driving transformational leadership.

Tara Fitzgerald, President, Clinical Development Services: Tara’s visionary leadership style centers on creating connections and collaboration, fueling team success and improving customer outcomes. Her global team of more than 8,000 employees provides customers with one of the broadest ranges of traditional and non-traditional clinical capabilities in the CRO industry. Tara’s dedication to motivating and inspiring her team to deliver effective and innovative solutions has propelled her rapidly throughout the organization.
  • Rising Star: Given to women in the first 15 to 20 years of their professional careers who contribute significantly to their organization, exemplify leadership, and serve as role models to top talent.

Kari L. Delahunty, MBA, Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy: Kari is a people-focused leader who thrives when creating new strategies, initiatives and teams to address customer and business challenges. One of her numerous company contributions includes engineering the Trusted Process™, a proprietary metrics-driven approach to delivering drug development that reduces variability and increasing predictability in trial outcomes. A mentor and coach, Kari provides professional development opportunities for a growing team that includes business process optimization and corporate strategy.

“Our honorees are transforming biopharmaceutical product development while advancing the next generation of talent,” said Lisa van Capelle, Chief Human Resources Officer, Syneos Health. “Tara and Kari’s commitment is aligned with our values of Challenging the Status Quo, Collaborating to Deliver Solutions, and Passionate to Change Patient Lives. They are role models for our people and our purpose.”

Syneos Health has been a member of the HBA for 18 years, supporting employees’ access to local and national professional development, mentoring and career-boosting tools. To further support the development of diverse leaders, the company also launched an internal recognition program in 2017. Modeled after the prestigious HBA awards, the Syneos Health Rising Star and Luminary Awards program has honored more than 60 women worldwide, providing expanded career visibility opportunities and peer-to-peer networking. This year, the program grew to include a Syneos Health Mentor of the Year Award, which honored Mike Menta, President, Syneos Health Consulting, for his dedication to supporting an inclusive work culture.

To further expand the discussion around the importance of women’s leadership in the life sciences industry, the Syneos Health office in London is hosting a live feed of the WOTY luncheon, followed by a panel discussion focused on the power of innovation and creativity in the biopharmaceutical sector.
