Profile

David J. Winter formed the Wintergreen Fund in 2005, a mutual fund based in New Jersey. Its total assets are more than $1.5 billion. The Fund invests in a multitude of countries outside the U.S., including Switzerland, Canada, and Hong Kong. About 55 percent of its portfolio is in consumer discretionary or staples industries, followed by about 10 percent in energy.

Investing Philosophy

The Fund invests mainly in equity securities of any country when it’s believed the security is undervalued. With regards to hedging strategies, the Fund primarily engages in forward foreign currency exchange contracts. It may also engage in activist investing and seek to influence a company’s management.
