1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
ย•ย•3. Consistency of the profitability

Business Description

AMR Corporation was incorporated in October 1982. The operations of the Company fall almost entirely in the airline industry. The main subsidiary of the Company, American Airlines, Inc. or American provides scheduled jet service to approximately 160 destinations throughout North America, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and Asia. American, AMR Eagle Holding Corporation or AMR Eagle and the AmericanConnection airlines serve 250 cities in 40 countries with, on average, more than 3,400 daily flights. American Airlines is also a founding member of oneworld Alliance, which enables member airlines to offer their customers more services and benefits than any member airline can provide individually. These services include a broader route network, opportunities to earn and redeem frequent flyer miles across the combined oneworld network and more airport lounges. Together, oneworld members serve nearly 700 destinations in over 150 countries, with 8,000 daily departures. American is also one of the largest scheduled air freight carriers in the world, providing a range of freight and mail services to shippers throughout its system onboard American's passenger fleet. AMR Eagle, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AMR, owns two regional airlines which do business as 'American Eagle', American Eagle Airlines, Inc. and Executive Airlines, Inc. collectively, the American Eagle carriers. American also contracts with an independently owned regional airline, which does business as 'AmericanConnection'. In addition to its domestic service, the Company provides international service to the Caribbean, Canada, Latin America, Europe and Asia. On most of its domestic non-stop routes, the Company faces competing service from at least one, and sometimes more than one, domestic airline including: AirTran Airways ,Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines including Northwest Airlines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United, US Airways, Virgin America Airlines and their affiliated regional carriers. The Company is subject to various laws and government regulations concerning environmental matters and employee safety and health in the U.S. and other countries.
