Aecom Technology Corp. was formed in 1980 as Ashland Technology Company, a Delaware corporation and a wholly owned subsidiary of Ashland, Inc., oil and gas refining and Distribution Company. The Company is a global provider of professional technical and management support services for commercial and government clients around the world. It provides planning, consulting, architectural and engineering design, and program and construction management services for a range of projects, including highways, airports, bridges, mass transit systems, government and commercial buildings, water and wastewater facilities and power transmission and distribution. It also provides program and facilities management, training, logistics and other support services, mainly for agencies of the U.S. government. The Company provides its services in a range of end markets, including the transportation, facilities, environmental, and energy and power markets. It offers services through two business segments: Professional Technical Services and Management Support Services. Professional Technical Services segment delivers planning, consulting, architectural and engineering design, and program and construction management services to commercial and government clients worldwide in end markets such as transportation, facilities, environmental, and energy and power markets. Management Support Services segment provides program and facilities management and maintenance, training, logistics, consulting, technical assistance and systems integration services, mainly for agencies of the U.S. government. The Company provides an array of services in its MSS segment, both directly and through joint ventures or similar partner arrangements, including: Installation, Operations and Maintenance, Logistics and Field Services, Training, Systems Support, Technical Personnel Placement and Field Services. Its business strategy focuses on leveraging its competitive strengths and leadership positions in core markets while opportunistically entering new markets and geographies. It includes Expand its long-standing client relationships and provide its clients with a broad range of services, Capitalize on opportunities in its core markets, Continue to pursue its acquisition strategy, Strengthen and support human capital. The Company's clients consist of national, state, regional and local governments, public and private institutions and corporations. It competes with a number of regional, national and international Companies. Internationally, it is subject to various government laws and regulations (including the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Arms Export Control Act, Proceeds of Crime Act and other similar non-U.S. laws and regulations), local government regulations and procurement policies and practices and varying currency, political and economic risks.
