Akamai Technologies Inc was incorporated in Delaware on August 20, 1998. The Company provides cloud services for delivering, optimizing and securing online content and business applications. Its solutions are designed to businesses, government agencies and other enterprises enhance their revenue streams and reduce costs by maximizing the performance of their online businesses. Its solutions range from delivery of conventional content on websites, to tools that support the delivery and operation of cloud-based applications, to live and on-demand streaming video capabilities all designed to help its customers interact with people accessing the Internet from myriad devices. The Company's Media Delivery Solutions are designed to enable enterprises to execute digital media and software distribution strategies by improving the end-user experience and reducing the cost of Internet-related infrastructure. Its media experience suite is made up of three key elements designed to provide superior quality viewing experiences Media Workflow, Delivery and Storage and Media Analytics. Its Web Application Accelerator service is designed to improve the performance of Web-based applications through a combination of dynamic caching, routing and connection optimization, and compression of content. Its customers include Apple, Autodesk, BMW, ebay, EMC, Panasonic, FedEx, Red Hat, Salesforce.com, Standard Chartered Bank, Turner Sports and Unilever. The Company competes with companies offering products and services that address Internet performance problems, including companies that provide Internet content delivery and hosting services, streaming content delivery services and equipment-based solutions to Internet performance problems, such as load balancers and server switches.
