Allstate Corp was incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware on November 5, 1992. Its business is conducted through Allstate Insurance Company, Allstate Life Insurance Company and other subsidiaries. Allstate is primarily engaged in the property-liability insurance and life insurance business. The Company has four business segments: Allstate Protection, Allstate Financial, Discontinued Lines and Coverages and Corporate and Other. Allstate Protection comprises three brands where it accept underwriting risk: Allstate, Encompass and Esurance. Allstate Protection is engaged in the sale of personal property and casualty insurance, private passenger auto and homeowners insurance, to individuals in the United States and Canada. Discontinued Lines and Coverages includes results from insurance coverage that it no longer writes and results for certain commercial and other businesses in run-off. These segments are consistent with the groupings of financial information that management uses to evaluate performance and to determine the allocation of resources. The Allstate Financial segment sells life insurance and voluntary employee benefits products. Corporate and Other segment is comprises of holding company activities and certain non-insurance operations. The Company's products are marketed under the Allstate, Encompass, and Esurance brand names. Allstate is subject to extensive regulation, mainly at the state level.
