American National Bankshares, Inc., is a one-bank holding company organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1984. The Company operates through its subsidiary American National Bank and Trust Company. The operations of the Company are conducted at twenty-five banking offices and two loan production offices serving Southern and Central Virginia and the northern portion of Central North Carolina. American National Bank and Trust Company provides a full array of financial products and services, including commercial, mortgage, and consumer banking; trust and investment services; and insurance. Services are also provided through twenty-five ATMs, 'AmeriLink' Internet banking, and 24-hour "Access American" telephone banking. The Company competes not only with national, regional, and community banks, but also with many other types of financial institutions, including without limitation, savings banks, finance companies, mutual and money market fund providers, brokerage firms, insurance companies, credit unions, and mortgage companies. The Company is extensively regulated under both federal and state law.
