GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Traded in other countries:4AM.Germany,
Ameresco, Inc., was incorporated in Delaware in April 2000. The Company is a provider of comprehensive services, energy efficiency, infrastructure upgrades, asset sustainability and renewable energy solutions for facilities throughout North America. Its solutions enable customers to reduce their energy consumption, lower their operating and maintenance costs and realize environmental benefits. The Company's comprehensive set of services addresses almost all aspects of purchasing and using energy within a facility. The Company's services include upgrades to a facility's energy infrastructure and the construction and operation of small-scale renewable energy plants. Its main service is the development, design, engineering and installation of projects that reduce the energy and operations and maintenance, or O&M, costs of its customers' facilities. These projects include a variety of measures customized for the facility and designed to improve the efficiency of major building systems, such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting systems. After a project is complete, it may operate, maintain and repair the customer's energy systems under a multi-year O&M contract, which provides it with recurring revenue and visibility into the customer's evolving needs. It also serves certain customers by developing and building small-scale renewable energy plants located at or close to a customer's site. Its small-scale renewable energy plants to date have been constructed adjacent to landfills and use landfill gas, or LFG, to generate energy. It also sells and installs photovoltaic, or PV, panels and integrated PV systems that convert solar energy to power. By enabling its customers to procure renewable sources of energy, it helps them reduce or stabilize their energy costs, as well as realize environmental benefits. As of December 31, 2013, it had backlog of approximately $362 million in expected future revenue under signed customer contracts for the installation or construction of projects. The Company's main competitors include Chevron Energy Solutions, Constellation Energy, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, NORESCO, Siemens Building Technologies, TAC Energy Solutions, and Trane. In addition, the operation of, and electrical interconnection for, its renewable energy projects are subject to federal, state or provincial interconnection and federal reliability standards also set forth in utility tariffs.
