Preferred Apartment Communities Inc acquires and operates multifamily properties in select targeted markets throughout the United States. Its business segments are multifamily communities, real estate related financing, and retail.

Preferred Apartment Communities Inc was formed as a Maryland corporation on September 18, 2009 and has elected to be taxed as a real estate investment trust, or REIT. The Company is formed to acquire multifamily properties in select targeted markets throughout the United States. The Company may acquire senior mortgage loans, subordinate loans or mezzanine debt secured by interests in multifamily properties, membership or partnership interests in multifamily properties and other multifamily assets. The Company is in the development stage. It is in the process of forming a subsidiary, Preferred Apartment Communities Operating Partnership, LP. Its investment strategy is to acquire assets in opportunistic and stable markets, taking advantage of a depleting inventory and favorable financing available from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
