American Safety Insurance Holdings Ltd. was formed in 1986 as a captive insurance company in Bermuda. The Company is a specialty insurance and reinsurance underwriter with U.S. insurance and international reinsurance operations offering solutions for specialty risks. Through the domestic operating subsidiaries and affiliates, it markets and underwrites a variety of specialty insurance products to small and medium-sized businesses in the United States. Through the Bermuda operating subsidiaries, it offers reinsurance products primarily to U.S. and international insurance companies. Its business is segmented into two: insurance operations and other. The insurance operations are further classified into three divisions: E&S, ART and Reinsurance. E&S consists of seven product lines: environmental, primary casualty, excess, property, surety, healthcare, and professional liability. ART consists of two product lines: specialty programs and fully funded. Reinsurance consists of property and casualty business assumed from unaffiliated specialty insurers and reinsurers. Other includes lines of business that the Company no longer underwrites and other ancillary product lines.
