AdvanSource Biomaterials Corporation, formerly known as CardioTech International, Inc., was founded in 1993 as a subsidiary of PolyMedica Corporation. It develops polymer materials which provide critical characteristics in the design and development of medical devices. Its biomaterials are used in devices that are designed for treating anatomical sites and disease states. Its edge technology, notably products such as ChronoFlex, ChronoSilTM, HydroMed, and HydroThane, has been developed to overcome a design and functional challenges. It also manufactures and sells its proprietary HydroThane polymers to medical device manufacturers that are evaluating HydroThane for use in their products. HydroThane is a thermoplastic, water-absorbing, polyurethane elastomer possessing properties which is suited for the complex requirements of a variety of catheters. In addition to its physical properties, HydroThane exhibits an inherent degree of bacterial resistance, clot resistance and biocompatibility. When hydrated, HydroThane has elastic properties similar to living tissue. The Company also manufactures specialty hydrophilic polyurethanes that are primarily sold to customers as part of exclusive arrangements.
