Bunge Limited is a limited liability company formed under the laws of Bermuda. It was founded in 1818 as a grain trading company in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The Company started its U.S. operations in 1923. It is global agribusiness and food company operating in the farm-to-consumer food chain. The Company conducts its operations in four divisions: agribusiness, sugar and bioenergy, food and ingredients and fertilizer. These divisions include five reportable business segments: agribusiness, sugar and bioenergy, edible oil products, milling products and fertilizer. The Company's agribusiness segment is an integrated, global business principally involved in the purchase, storage, transport, processing and sale of agricultural commodities and commodity products. Its agribusiness operations and assets are primarily located in North and South America, Europe and Asia. Its sugar and bioenergy segment produces and sells sugar and ethanol derived from sugar cane, as well as energy derived from their production process, through its operations in Brazil. Its integrated operations in this segment also include global merchandising of sugar and ethanol. The Company's food and ingredients operations consist of two reportable business segments: edible oil products and milling products. These segments include businesses that produce and sell edible oils, shortenings, margarines, mayonnaise and milled products such as wheat flours, corn-based products and rice with operations located in Brazil, the United States and Mexico and the operations and assets of its edible oil products segment are located in North America, Europe, Brazil, China and India. The Company's fertilizer segment is involved in producing, blending and distributing fertilizer products for the agricultural industry primarily in South America. The Company's operations are regulated by environmental, health and safety laws and regulations in the countries where it operates, including those governing the labeling, use, storage, discharge and disposal of hazardous materials.
