Business Description

Benchmark Electronics, Inc., began operations in 1979 and was incorporated under Texas law in 1981 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Intermedics, Inc., a medical implant manufacturer based in Angleton, Texas. The Company is engaged in the business of manufacturing electronics and it provides its services to original equipment manufacturers of computers and related products for business enterprises, medical devices, industrial control equipment, testing and instrumentation products, and telecommunication equipment. The Company offers a range of engineering, automation, test, manufacturing and fulfillment solutions that support its customers' products from initial design through prototyping, design validation, testing, and ramp to volume production, worldwide distribution and aftermarket support. It offers a full spectrum of new product design, prototype, test and related engineering solutions. The Company's concurrent engineering approach shortens product development cycles and gives its customers a competitive advantage in time-to-market and time-to-profit. The Company's multi-disciplined engineering teams provide expertise in a number of core competencies critical to serving OEMs in its target markets, including award-winning industrial design, mechanical and electrical hardware, firmware, software and systems integration and support. It provides its customers with a range of custom automated test equipment, functional test equipment, process automation and replication solutions. It offers a range of printed circuit board assembly and test solutions, including printed circuit board assembly, assembly of subsystems, circuitry and functionality testing of printed assemblies, environmental and stress testing and component reliability testing. The Company provides its customers with a range of flex circuit assembly and test solutions. It works with its customers to develop product-specific test strategies. Its test capabilities include manufacturing defect analysis, in-circuit tests to test the circuitry of the board and functional tests to confirm that the board or assembly operates in accordance with its final design and manufacturing specifications. It markets its services through a direct sales force and independent marketing representatives. In addition, its divisional and executive management teams are an integral part of its sales and marketing teams. Its competitors include Celestica Inc., Flextronics International Ltd., Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., Jabil Circuit, Inc., and Sanmina-SCI Corporation. The Company's operations, and the operations of businesses that it acquires, are subject to certain foreign, federal, state and local regulatory requirements relating to security clearance, environmental, waste management, and health and safety matters. It operates in substantial compliance with all applicable requirements.
