Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior SA and subsidiaries operates as anspecialized supranational bank. The Company provides trade financing to selected commercial banks, middle-market companies and corporations in the Region.

Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior SA is a specialized supranational bank, which was incorporated under the laws of the Republic of Panama. It was established on May 1975.The Bank is principally engaged in providing trade financing to selected commercial banks, corporations and middle-market companies. The Bank's activities are operated and managed by two segments, Commercial and Treasury. The Commercial division is responsible for the Bank's financial intermediation and fee generation activities. Its portfolio includes loan portfolio, selected deposits placed, equity investments, acceptances and contingencies (including letters of credit, stand-by letters of credit, and guarantees covering commercial risk and credit commitments). Treasury Division, is responsible for the Bank's funding and liquidity management, along with the management of its activities in investment securities, which comprise trading assets, securities available-for-sale, securities held-to-maturity, the Bank's investments in the investment funds, and the management of the Bank's interest rate, liquidity, price and currency risks. The Bank's credit portfolio consists of the commercial portfolio and investment securities portfolio. The commercial portfolio includes the loan portfolio, selected deposits placed, equity investments, customer liabilities under acceptances, and contingencies. The investment securities portfolio consists of debt securities available-for-sale, securities held-to-maturity including some trading assets, and excludes the Bank's investments in the Investment Funds. The Bank faces competition mainly from regional and international banks in making loans and providing fee-generating services. It competes in its lending and deposit taking activities with other banks and international financial institutions, many of which have greater financial resources and offer sophisticated banking services. The Bank's direct and indirect nonbanking subsidiaries doing business in the United States are subject to regulation by the U.S. Federal Reserve Board.
