GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Business Description

Boardwalk Pipeline Partner, LP is a Delaware limited partnership formed in 2005. The Company's business is conducted by its subsidiary, Boardwalk Pipelines, LP and its subsidiaries, Gulf Crossing Pipeline Company LLC, Gulf South Pipeline Company, LP and Texas Gas Transmission, LLC. The Company through its subsidiaries own and operate three interstate natural gas pipeline systems including integrated storage facilities. Its pipeline systems originate in the Gulf Coast region, Oklahoma and Arkansas and extend north and east to the Midwestern states of Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. It serves a mix of customers, including marketers, local distribution companies, producers, electric power generators, interstate and intrastate pipelines and direct industrial users. The Company provides a portion of its pipeline transportation and storage services through firm contracts under which its customers pay monthly capacity reservation charges. Other charges are based on actual utilization of the capacity under firm contracts and contracts for interruptible services. The Company's operating subsidiaries own and operate approximately 14,200 miles of interconnected pipelines, directly serving customers in twelve states and indirectly serving customers throughout the northeastern and southeastern United States through numerous interconnections with unaffiliated pipelines. The Company's transportation and storage rates and general terms and conditions of service are established by, and subject to review and revision by, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The Company contracts with its customers to provide transportation services and storage services on a firm and interruptible basis. It also provides bundled firm transportation and storage services, known to as NNS and SNS. In addition, it also provides interruptible PAL services. The Company offers transportation services and customer's storage services on both a firm and interruptible basis. NNS and SNS consist of a combination of firm transportation and storage services that allow customers to withdraw gas from storage with little or no notice. Customers pay a reservation charge based upon the capacity reserved plus a commodity and a fuel charge based on the volume of gas actually transported. PAL is an interruptible service offered to customers providing them the ability to park or borrows gas into or out of its pipeline systems at a specific location for a specific period of time. The Company contracts directly with end-use customers and with marketers, producers and other third parties who provide transportation and storage services to end-users. It competes with other pipelines to maintain current business levels and to serve new demand and markets. The Company's operations are subject to extensive federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to protection of the environment.
