Brown Shoe Company, Inc., was founded in 1878 and incorporated in 1913. The Company is a footwear retailer and wholesaler. Its activities include the operation of retail shoe stores and e-commerce websites as well as the design, sourcing and marketing of footwear for women and men. It offers licensed, branded and private-label casual, dress and athletic footwear products to women, men and children. Footwear is sold at a number of price points through multiple distribution channels both domestically and internationally. The Company currently operates approximately 1,277 retail shoe stores in the United States, Canada, China and Guam mainly under the Famous Footwear and Naturalizer names. In addition, through its Wholesale Operations segment, the Company designs, sources and markets footwear to retail stores domestically and internationally, including mass merchandisers, national chains, department stores, independent retailers, catalogs and online retailers. The Company's reportable segments include Famous Footwear, Wholesale Operations, Specialty Retail and Other. Famous Footwear stores feature a selection of brand-name, athletic, casual and dress shoes for the entire family. Brands carried include, among others, Nike, Skechers, New Balance, Converse, adidas, DC, LifeStride, Reebok, Sperry, Asics, Puma, Dr. Scholl's Shoes, Vans, BOC by Born, Sof Sole, Fergalicious and Bearpaw. Wholesale Operations segment designs, sources and markets branded footwear for women and men at a variety of price points.
