China Eastern Airlines Corp Ltd was established on April 14, 1995 under the laws of China. In February 1997, the Company completed its initial public offering. The Company operates as a air carriers in China and is an important domestic airline based in and serving Shanghai, which is considered to be the international financial center and the international shipping center of China. It serves a route network that covers 1024 domestic and foreign destinations in 178 countries through Skyteam. The Company operates primarily from its core hub in Shanghai and regional hubs in Kunming and Xi'an. The Company is engaged in provision of domestic, regional and international passenger airline services. It operated approximately 24 flight routes between mainland China and Hong Kong and approximately 25 routes between mainland China and Taiwan and three routes between China and Macau. The Company faces competition in each of the domestic, regional and international markets that it serves. In its domestic markets, it competes against all airline companies that have the same routes, including smaller domestic airline companies that operate with costs that are lower than the Company's costs. In its regional and international markets, it competes against international airline companies that have significantly longer operating histories, greater name recognition, more resources or larger sales networks than the Company does, or utilize more developed reservation systems than The Company's reservation systems.
