Cencosud SA was incorporated on November 10, 1978. It is a multi-brand retailer company. The Company operates through six business segments: supermarkets, home improvement stores, department stores, shopping centers, financial services and others. The supermarkets includes the Jumbo, Santa Isabel, Disco, Vea, Wong, Metro, GBarbosa, Perini, Bretas and Prezunic supermarkets and hypermarkets in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Peru, its Eletro-show stores, GBarbosa pharmacies in Brazil and Colombia and gas stations in Brazil and Colombia. The shopping centers includes the shopping centers in Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Peru. The home improvement stores includes Easy and Blaisten home improvement stores in Chile, Argentina and Colombia. The department stores includes Paris and Johnson department stores in Chile and Paris in Peru. The financial services includes the credit card businesses and consumer loans, as well as the Company's limited insurance brokerage operations in Chile, Argentina, and Peru and through joint ventures in Brazil with Banco Bradesco and Colpatria in Colombia and the other segment includes entertainment centers, loyalty programs and its corporate back-office operations. It also offer private label credit cards, consumer loans and limited financial services to its retail customers. Some of its products are delivered directly to its stores by the suppliers and others are sent to its distribution centers. The Company's competitors include international and domestic operators of supermarkets, department stores, home improvement stores and shopping centers, including Casino, Carrefour, Wal-Mart, and Falabella. The Company's business is subject to the full range of governmental regulation and supervision generally applicable to companies engaged in business in each country, including labor laws, social security laws, public health, consumer protection and environmental laws, securities laws and antitrust laws.
