CPFL Energy SA, through its holdings, is engaged in distribution, generation & commercialization of electric energy in Brazil.

CPFL Energy SA was incorporated on March 20, 1998. The Company, along with its subsidiaries, distributes, generates and commercializes electricity in Brazil. It is also engaged in electricity commercialization and provides agency services to Free Consumers before the CCEE and other agents, as well as electricity-related services to its affiliates and unaffiliated parties. Its core business is Distribution, Conventional generation sources, Renewable generation sources, Commercialization and Services. Each of its subsidiaries has a Distribution Network consisting of a network of predominantly overhead lines and sub-stations having successively lower voltage ranges. Consumers are classified in different voltage levels based on their consumption of, and demand for, electricity, its distribution Networks consisted of 247,422 kilometers of distribution lines, including 369,526 distribution transformers. The Company classifies its consumers into five categories: Industrial consumers, Residential consumers, Commercial consumers, Rural consumers and Other consumers. It is currently involved in the construction of Alvorada and Coopcana co-generation plants, the Campo dos Ventos II wind farm and the wind farms of the Macacos I, São Benedito, Atlântica and the Campo dos Ventos complexes. It is currently engaged in the refurbishment of the CERAN complex. The Company is also installing equipment to assure the free flow of water in the three hydroelectrical plants and therefore increase their availability. It faces competition from other generation and commercialization companies in the sale of electricity to Free Consumers.
