Business Description

Central Virginia Bankshares, Inc. was incorporated as a Virginia corporation on March 7, 1986, solely to acquire all of the issued and outstanding shares of Central Virginia Bank (the Bank). The main business of the Bank is to attract deposits and to loan or invest those deposits on profitable risk adjusted terms. The Bank is engaged in a general community and commercial banking business, targeting the banking needs of individuals and small to medium sized businesses in its main service area. The Bank offers all traditional loan and deposit banking services as well as newer services such as Internet banking, telephone banking, debit cards, and other ancillary services such as the sales of non-deposit investment products through a partnership with Infinex, Inc. a registered broker-dealer and member of FINRA and SIPC. The Bank makes term loans, both alone and in conjunction with other banks or governmental agencies. The Bank also offers other related services, such as ATMs, travelers' checks, safe deposit boxes, deposit transfer, notary public, escrow, drive-in facilities and other customary banking services. The Bank's lending policies, deposit products and related services are intended to meet the needs of individuals and businesses in its market area. The Company is an active residential mortgage and residential construction lender and also extends consumer loans to individuals and commercial loans to small and medium sized businesses within its main service area. The Company's commercial lending activity extends across its main service area of Powhatan, Cumberland, Goochland, western Chesterfield and western Henrico Counties. The Company currently offers most types of consumer demand, time and installment loans for a variety of purposes, including automobile loans, home equity lines of credit, and credit cards. As a full-service community bank, the Company makes commercial loans to qualified businesses in its market area. Commercial business loans generally have a higher degree of risk than residential mortgage loans, but have commensurately higher yields. The Company offers commercial mortgage loans secured by liens on properties such as commercial office condos or commercial warehouses. The Company is subject to regulation under the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956, as amended, and the examination and reporting requirements of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
