GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Baron Funds Comments on Concho Resources Inc. - Nov 13, 2015

Concho Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CXO) has been a standout performer amidst a steep decline in the energy sector. We reduced the size of the position to make room for our investment in Charles Schwab.

Baron Funds Comments on Concho Resources Inc - Mar 23, 2015

Concho Resources, Inc. (CXO) is an independent E&P company focused on the Permian Basin in West Texas and New Mexico. Concho shares fell in the fourth quarter amid the rout in oil prices. While Concho is executing on its drilling programs and seeing improving well results and widening prospects within its asset base, the impact of lower prices on cash flows is diminishing near-term growth forecasts and raising concerns about the future value of its inventory. We see the current environment as an opportunity for Concho to add high quality assets at attractive prices. (Jamie Stone)

Baron Funds Comments on Concho Resources Inc - Oct 24, 2014

Concho Resources, Inc. (CXO), is an exploration and production (E&P) company focused on the Permian Basin in West Texas. Shares fell in the third quarter, in line with the decline in oil prices. Concho remains on track to deliver on its “three by two” plan, designed to double production in three years. Even at lower oil prices, we believe Concho has the wherewithal to deliver on the program. In addition, drilling results from Concho and other E&P companies in the region are pointing to the potential for significantly more value creation from Concho’s resource base. (Jamie Stone)

Baron Funds Comments on Concho Resources - May 29, 2014

Concho Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CXO) is our latest energy investment. We believe our country is finally embarking on the road to energy independence. Introduced earlier, in the Top Contributors section, we believe Concho is a Baron "type" company that at the time of purchase was trading at a greater than 20% discount to its net asset value. It also happened to be the second largest investment in our Energy and Resources Fund, run by Jamie Stone, who happens to be the smartest energy investor we know (I am a committed shareholder in his Fund).

Baron Funds Comments on Concho Resources - May 29, 2014

Concho Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CXO) is an independent E&P company focused on the Permian Basin in West Texas. Concho shares rose 24% for the period held as the company provided greater detail about a significant increase in its oil and gas resource potential across its acreage position in the Permian and particularly in the Delaware sub-basin. The combination of the increase in the company's drilling inventory, strong initial well results and a faster than expected acceleration in its drilling inventory bode well for Concho's production growth outlook and for improvements in its net asset value.

Concho Resources Inc. is a Delaware corporation, which was formed in February 22, 2006 as a result of the combination of Concho Equity Holdings Corp. and a portion of the oil and natural gas properties and related assets owned by Chase Oil Corporation and certain of its affiliates. It is an independent oil and natural gas company, which is engaged in the acquisition, development, exploitation and exploration of producing oil and natural gas properties. Its core operating areas are located in the Permian Basin region of Southeast New Mexico and West Texas, a large onshore oil and natural gas basin in the United States. The Permian Basin is one of the prolific oil and natural gas producing regions in the United States and is characterized by production history, mature infrastructure, long reserve life, multiple producing horizons and enhanced recovery potential. It refers to its two core operating areas as the New Mexico Permian, where it targets the Yeso formation, and Texas Permian, where it targets the Wolfberry, a term applied to the combined Wolfcamp and Spraberry horizons. Its core operations are focused in the Permian Basin of Southeast New Mexico and West Texas. It underlies an area of Southeast New Mexico and West Texas approximately 250 miles wide and 300 miles long. Commercial accumulations of hydrocarbons occur in multiple stratigraphic horizons, at depths ranging from approximately 1,000 feet to over 25,000 feet. The production of oil and natural gas is subject to regulation under the local, state and federal statutes, rules, orders and regulations.
