GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Concho Resources Inc. is an oil and natural gas company, which is engaged in the acquisition, development, exploitation and exploration of producing oil and natural gas properties. It operates in the Delaware Basin.

Concho Resources Inc. is a Delaware corporation, which was formed in February 22, 2006 as a result of the combination of Concho Equity Holdings Corp. and a portion of the oil and natural gas properties and related assets owned by Chase Oil Corporation and certain of its affiliates. It is an independent oil and natural gas company, which is engaged in the acquisition, development, exploitation and exploration of producing oil and natural gas properties. Its core operating areas are located in the Permian Basin region of Southeast New Mexico and West Texas, a large onshore oil and natural gas basin in the United States. The Permian Basin is one of the prolific oil and natural gas producing regions in the United States and is characterized by production history, mature infrastructure, long reserve life, multiple producing horizons and enhanced recovery potential. It refers to its two core operating areas as the New Mexico Permian, where it targets the Yeso formation, and Texas Permian, where it targets the Wolfberry, a term applied to the combined Wolfcamp and Spraberry horizons. Its core operations are focused in the Permian Basin of Southeast New Mexico and West Texas. It underlies an area of Southeast New Mexico and West Texas approximately 250 miles wide and 300 miles long. Commercial accumulations of hydrocarbons occur in multiple stratigraphic horizons, at depths ranging from approximately 1,000 feet to over 25,000 feet. The production of oil and natural gas is subject to regulation under the local, state and federal statutes, rules, orders and regulations.

Baron Energy and Resources Fund Comments on Concho Resources - Nov 21, 2016

Concho Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CXO) is an independent oil and gas E&P company focused on the Permian basin in West Texas and New Mexico. Shares rose in the third quarter on increased production guidance, lowered cash costs, and a solid operations update, as well as strong M&A activity in the Delaware basin, which highlighted the value of its holdings in the basin. As one of the best run mid-cap E&P companies, in our view, we believe Concho is well positioned to exploit the deep economic inventory of drilling locations where it operates.

Baron Funds Comments on Concho Resources Inc - Mar 23, 2015

Concho Resources, Inc. (CXO) is an independent E&P company focused on the Permian Basin in West Texas and New Mexico. Concho shares fell in the fourth quarter amid the rout in oil prices. While Concho is executing on its drilling programs and seeing improving well results and widening prospects within its asset base, the impact of lower prices on cash flows is diminishing near-term growth forecasts and raising concerns about the future value of its inventory. We see the current environment as an opportunity for Concho to add high quality assets at attractive prices. (Jamie Stone)
